This is a vintage 'French Majolica Strawberry Plate' from Sarreguemines, France, circa 1890. There is slight crazing due to its age, although no chips. The decorative style known as 'Barbotine' was very popular in 19th century France, often featuring vibrant colors and molded designs.
Strawberry motifs were a common and beloved theme in Barbotine ware, evoking a sense of rustic charm and abundance. These plates were not only functional, but also served a decorative purpose, adding a touch of color and whimsy to dining tables and home interiors.
Hand-painted, authentic, ceramic, and sold individually.
